The old Hoffman Banana building has been a downtown landmark for years.  The Waco Outreach Foundation has completely remodeled the building and the entire block has been updated with new parking lot, street lights, landscaping and wide sidewalks lined with red brick.  The result is an entirely renovated city block which is an attractive addition to downtown Waco.

The Waco Outreach Foundation now uses the building for several purposes to help the families in McLennan County, as well as the college age and high school age youth in McLennan County.   All WOF goods and services are available to individuals without consideration of race, creed or religion.  Volunteer efforts will be performed by W.O.F volunteers and volunteers from other local organizations. All goods and services which are provided free of charge will be available only to Mclennan county residents who are able to present a photo ID and proof of residence, (such as an electric bill, or water bill).  There are also services which are available specifically to the students enrolled in institutions within Mclennan county. Each student must present a valid current student ID in order to gain admittance.

The city of Waco has been instrumental in the whole process by contributing TIF funds as well as being extremely cooperative with WOF while going through the construction phase. We cannot express our thanks enough to the various staff from the TIF board as well as the staff from the planning and permitting departments.

Services Provided

The purpose of the Waco Outreach Foundation is to manage the old Hoffman Banana building and surrounding land located at 3rd & Webster and to use the property in a way which will benefit families who reside in Mclennan county as well as the students enrolled in the public schools and colleges located within Mclennan county.
The facility offers several different types of services for the families in McLennan county, as well as the college age and high school aged youth.   All WOF services are available to individuals without consideration of race, creed or religion.  Volunteer efforts will be performed by W.O.F volunteers and volunteers from other local organizations.  Our focus is to assist  the residents within Mclennan county.
"The RPM " is designed for the high school and middle school aged youth.  Here local youth can meet, play games and enjoy each other’s company in an adult supervised, and safe environment.  A free meal consisting of a healthy home cooked meal and soda will be given to each student who is able to present a valid current student ID from a McLennan county school.
"Hoffman Hall"  has been designed to be used as a venue for local bands and drama teams to display their talents.  Our focus is on the McLennan county college & high school aged youth.
The "Jakarta Coffee" shop is a public coffee shop offering coffee and fountain soft drinks served free of charge to all college students who can present a valid student ID, from one of the three colleges in McLennan county.
The "Operation Assist" is a family oriented commissary where used clothing and other household articles are made available to lower income families in Waco.  A food pantry stocked with canned goods and dry goods is also included. The "Operation Assist" commissary and pantry is available only to Mclennan county residents, and is geared towards families.  Access is granted only to individuals who can show a photo ID, and also a proof of residence such as an electric bill, or water bill.

Healthcare Equipment Lending Service

"Operation Assist" also includes a lending service of various types of medical equipment.  This equipment is available on a lend basis to those in need. The Waco Regional Baptist Networks's "Operation Assist " organization is manning this area for the Waco Outreach Foundation

The "Ruth Project" is a faith-based organization dedicated to empowering immigrants for safer and better futures.  Our clients are active agents of change in their own lives, and we work alongside these immigrants to help them become fully active members of their communities. The Ruth Project provides legal and social assistance in a compassionate and professional manner to our immigrant community.  We are recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals and have accredited representatives and volunteer social workers that are able to help clients with multiple services.

It is our goal to ensure that the Waco Outreach Foundation is not simply a duplication of other local outreaches which are already doing a wonderful job in their respective endeavors, but to provide fresh ideas which meets the needs of Mclennan county families and students, some of whom may be in need of services which are not currently available.
We work extremely hard to be sure that W.O.F. is an asset to those in need, as well as being a good neighbor to the local downtown areas.  We are firm in our belief that the downtown Waco area has vast potential for improvements which can ultimately provide goods and services as well as provide our city with an improved atmosphere downtown.  We desire to have W.O.F. be an integral part of those improvements.
